Crypto.com recently released a new Visa Card offer. In this post we review the pros and cons of this new product, and answer all your burning questions about the latest hotness.

How does the Crypto.com Visa Card work?

Crypto.com issues you with a prepaid Visa card. This card is linked to your Crypto.com wallet that can hold both crypto and fiat assets.

Whenever you make a fiat transaction using the card (e.g. buying an Uber trip for $10 USD), Crypto.com will deduct the equivalent amount from the cryptocurrency stored in your wallet.

Why is this better than using a traditional debit or credit card?

If you believe that the value of the cryptocurrency stored in your Crypto.com wallet will go up over time, then it would be a bad idea to sell this in order to fund a traditional debit card with USD.

By using a Crypto.com Visa card you gain the best of both worlds: spending in the real world with a physical debit card, and the ability to hold crypto in your account until the last possible moment when it is exchanged into fiat currency at a competitive rate.

Is the Crypto.com Visa Card a credit or debit card?

Technically it’s a Visa debit card. This means that if you’re making a purchase on a site that only accepts credit cards, it may not work.

According to the official site:

The Crypto.com Visa Card is a prepaid card. Broadly speaking, prepaid cards are the same as debit cards. The difference is that debit cards are linked to your bank account, but prepaid cards need to be topped up. In our case, you can top up using bank account transfers, other credit/debit cards, or cryptocurrency.

Does the Visa card have any fees?

Some fees do apply. At present there is no yearly maintenance fee (unlike many regular credit cards). But there are minimum required CRO stakes, and different ATM withdrawal and currency exchange fees depending on which tier card you have.

According to the official site:

Information about fees and limits (i.e. free ATM withdrawals, interbank exchange rates, top-ups, etc.) can be found in the ‘Fees & Limits’ section under ‘Settings’ in the Crypto.com App. Fees vary by card tier, so be sure you’re checking the correct one.

And regarding exchange rates:

The exact rates depend on your jurisdiction and card tier. We will provide all these details in the Crypto.com Visa Card Terms and Conditions when you apply for your card.

What is the difference between the Crypto.com Visa Card and the MCO Visa Card?

They are the same thing. Crypto.com simply rebranded the card from MCO to Crypto.com.
